One of the television industry’s most respected senior executives has signed on to become Senior Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of the world’s first multimedia lifestyle and entertainment golf television network.
HARTFORD, CT, DECEMBER 22, 2010: One of the television industry’s most respected senior executives has signed on to become Senior Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of the world’s first multimedia lifestyle and entertainment golf television network. The Back9 Network has announced that Kevin O’Brien, former President of the Meredith Broadcast Group and a 40 year TV veteran, will take the leadership role as the company continues its initial private equity offering.
“Kevin’s background running some of the most successful television stations and broadcast groups in the country will serve us well in implementing our launch strategy,” says Back9 Co-Chairman, President, and Founder Jamie Bosworth. “He’s a perfect complement to our already strong, core golf industry team.” Bosworth is a former senior executive for Callaway Golf, Top-Flite, and Ben Hogan, and has assembled a management team made up of senior leaders of major golf companies, media, and governing organizations.
Mr. O’Brien began his broadcasting career with Metromedia in 1968, and successfully led WTTG Washington, WNYW New York, and KTVU in San Francisco where he was named Senior Vice President of Cox Enterprises. In November 2001, he was named President of the Meredith Broadcast Group and is credited with completing one of the quickest and most successful organizational turnarounds in TV history.
Delivered via cable and satellite providers, the Back9 Network plans to create a multi-platform digital system, providing simultaneous distribution over the internet and mobile devices. The new network will take a decidedly different approach to covering golf. “The pros are an important part of the sport,” says O’Brien, “but that’s not why more than 100 million of us play the game. Golf is a lifestyle, a social and business opportunity, a personal, yet shared experience, and that’s exactly how we intend to cover it. We’ll work across media platforms to attract and engage younger viewers and encourage social media interactions to give a voice to our audience. We’ll be all of the things traditional golf media is not.”
The Back9 Network is currently conducting a private equity offering through Halpern Capital (member of FINRA and SIPC). Further information can be obtained by visiting the company’s web site at www.back9network.com.
