Comprehensive “Expedition Guides” Bring to Life the Historic Events of the War Between the States and the Ultimate Preservation of the Union

Bedford, New Hampshire, March 22, 2011 – TravelBrains, founded in 1999 is the leading publisher of self-guided Civil War battlefield audio tours. TravelBrains has produced tours of the top six Civil War battlefield destinations: Gettysburg, Vicksburg, Antietam, Manassas, Fredericksburg, and Chickamauga. A tour of Shiloh will be published in 2012.

“Our goal at TravelBrains is to create engaging multimedia tours of historic sites that both entertain and educate,” states Paul Davis, CEO. “To achieve this goal, we have taken a very different approach to publishing tours. Our main tour product, called an ‘Expedition Guide,’ combines three unique components: an illustrated guidebook, an audio tour on CD, and a computer DVD-ROM. It's a comprehensive tour package that begins at home and ends at the battlefield.”

TravelBrains Expedition Guides include films about the history of the Civil War armies and the major battles. They feature essential locations on the battlefields and include personal stories of the men and women who helped change the course of American history.

TravelBrains recently published the first ever Augmented Reality (AR) tour of a Civil War battlefield. Augmented Reality (AR) is a revolutionary technology for smartphones that includes computer-generated images, which are inserted by the tour author. For example, the Gettysburg AR tour shows Abraham Lincoln standing in front of the Gettysburg Visitor Center. It allows the user to take a photo of him or herself standing next to Lincoln. The Gettysburg mobile tour is a free download with the purchase of a Gettysburg Expedition Guide. It is available from MyTourGuide.com, a new mobile tour division of TravelBrains.

“Civil War locations are of vital importance to understanding what it means to be an American, 620,000 soldiers died in a conflict that nearly dissolved the United States,” notes Paul Davis. “As we commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, we hope that TravelBrains Guides will encourage people from around the world to learn about this remarkable chapter in American history.”
