Interesting ideas for going green in your home by freshening up your interior design.

MINNEAPOLIS – April 2, 2011 – Studies prove consumers are now spending more time than ever at home creating the urge to refresh and revitalize their surroundings.

 

Nancy Curry, Principal of Nancy Curry Interiors, is most asked, “What are the new trends in color as well as design?” Colors sizzle this season.  We are seeing rich reds, clear royal blues to deep navy. The fabrics are soft and lush, such as velvets, satin and mohair paired with chunky linens and textured wools. Medium browns are moving in, challenging grays dominance as today’s neutral.

 

Purple continues to show up as an important accent color. The new tones will become more saturated moving toward blue according to the Color Marketing Group forecast. With this forecast established, we now wait to see what colors make it into our home décor and which ones fall away as a passing trend.

 

Nancy says, “a growing trend is recycling in design. People are looking for ways to use things, such as Grandma’s old desk,  making it look new and revitalized with a fresh coat of paint.  Recycling by painting a color in today’s palette can lift a space and make it fresh again. Paint manufacturers are offering low VOC paints. Fabric vendors are offering organic cotton fabrics. Green design doesn’t have to be all or nothing.  It can be as simple as using an old interesting lamp base and revitalizing it with a new linen shade. A past its prime chest can look years younger with a coat of cobalt blue paint or spicy red.”
