U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs and Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids Honored with Prestigious Creative Summit International Awards

McLean, Virginia, May 18, 2011 – The Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs and the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, both clients of NavigationArts, a leading web consulting firm, have been recognized for outstanding website design by the Summit International Awards (SIA).  The SIA organization is dedicated to furthering excellence in the marketing communications industry and raising awareness of companies and individuals who have the creative and marketing talent to go beyond the ordinary. Throughout its seventeen year history, SIA’s Creative Award has established itself as one of the premier arbiters of creative and communication excellence, drawing on the expertise of an international panel of judges.

NavigationArts partnered with Creative Information Technology, Inc. (CITI) to perform web work with the Bureau of Consular Affairs, specifically to redesign their website StudentsAbroad.State.gov, which focuses on preparing students for overseas trips. Through interactive prompts, students are educated on essential documentation, embassy locations, destination country news, and courses of action in case of emergencies and health issues.  The NavigationArts/CITI team completely overhauled “Students Abroad,” synthesizing what were two originally disparate sites built in both Flash and HTML. The new, singular site includes clear navigation, email-ready URLs, cross-site 508 compliance, and a visual design that evokes the State Department’s digital presence look and feel. StudentsAbroad.State.gov received two Summit International Awards, with Silver honors for Best Government Website as well as Best Travel/Tourism Website.

The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is a leading force in the fight to reduce tobacco use and its deadly toll in the U.S. and around the world. NavigationArts collaborated with Tobacco-Free Kids to design a site that would serve as an effective channel for critical communication, advocacy, and fundraising endeavors.  Hallmarks of the website redesign for Tobacco-Free Kids  are optimal navigation, quick and easy access to an extensive collection of research including Fact Sheets, and built-in promotion of web-based opportunities to participate in the Campaign. NavigationArts also created a strategy around a unified visual identity for the Campaign’s family of websites to increase connectivity and streamline messaging.  The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids received Bronze honors from SIA in the Non-Profit Website category.
