Recent press reports have identified two sisters that had a nasty encounter with bed bugs whilst staying at a London Hotel. The sisters were left that traumatised by their experience that following a consultation with a legal professional they were rewarded more than £1600.00 in compensation by the legal courts.

The sisters had arranged a night’s stay at a cheap central London budget contract Hotel but hadn’t expected the nasty bugs to be offered as complimentary guests for the night in their contract buy beds! These two sisters had up to 115 separate bites on their bodies, which had been caused by the creatures living in the bed linens and contract mattresses. They immediately visited the local hospital and received treatment in order to arrest the swelling and nausea the bugs had caused.

Both sisters reported the bites as being very painful and they were left with aches, constant itching and generally feeling unwell for several weeks after the event.

I suppose the moral to the story is to ensure your linens are changed and cleaned regularly and your hotel contract mattress are of the highest standard. The bad press that this particular hotel has received following the incident can never have a value put against it but it’s a fair to assume that it will be a lot more than the £1600 compensation paid to the sisters and certainly more than the costs associated with keeping their bedding clean and providing quality hotel contract mattresses for their guests.
