SendThisFile increases productivity with transfer auto-resume

04-Aug-2012 | News-Press Release

Wichita, KS ( prsafe ) July 30, 2012 - SendThisFile® today is announcing automatic resume file upload functionality, allowing customers to resume a file transfer once their Internet connection is reestablished.

"Transfer auto-resume is a boon for customers who frequently send large files," said Scott Sexton, Vice President of SendThisFile. "Customers will love the time it saves them and they no longer have to constantly check their connection status."

Previously, customers who would send large files could experience a failed file transfer due to an interrupted file transfer session, requiring the user to restart the upload process.

Web browser based file transfer sessions rely on uninterrupted Internet connections, with any drop in the connection resulting in a failed transfer state. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) usually emphasize their download speeds. Their upload speeds are generally much slower. These slower upload speeds can extend the file upload time for large files, increasing the likelihood of an interruption. A weak or intermittent wireless networking connection, Internet congestion, power save modes, and even an innocuous screensaver each have the capability to interrupt a file transfer.

"We quickly identified that auto-resume would be an important feature," said John Stephens, Vice President of Operations. "It's a simple concept that is a surprisingly difficult technical achievement to pull off"

SendThisFile's development team wrote a completely new enhanced mode from scratch. Powered by a Java-based applet, a technology universally available to all web browsers and platforms, the new enhanced mode also brought other improvements as well, including drag-and-drop file selection, folder sending, and automatic file compression.

Transfer auto-resume is a free update available today to all paid SendThisFile customers.
