Transit Alliance names five new leaders to board

NASHVILLE – Five Middle Tennesseans have been named to the Board of Directors of the Transit Alliance of Middle Tennessee, following a joint conference today with leaders of the Mayors Caucus and Cumberland Region Tomorrow.
Ed Cole, Executive Director of the Transit Alliance, said the new board members are recognized leaders in their civic and professional realms and will add to the knowledge and effectiveness of the initiative for improved regional transportation options. Their election today brings to 38 the number of Middle Tennessee leaders serving on the governing body of the Transit Alliance.
The new board members are:
Jack Bell, President of Jack Bell Builders, Inc., a construction and development company in Lebanon, Tennessee. He was one of the founders of Wilson Bank & Trust in 1987 and is still a board member of the bank. Mr. Bell is a native of Wilson County. After college, he when to work in the family business (Le-Al-Co) until it was sold in 1994.
Michelle Kendall, Tennessee Area Manager for Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB Americas, Inc.). Ms. Kendall’s background is in transportation and land use planning with a strong knowledge of the regulations of and interactions among state, regional and local transportation agencies. She has managed a variety of projects for numerous governmental clients and is affiliated with the American Institute of Certified Planners.
Jim Morinec, Vice President of AECOM, a global provider of engineering services to a range of markets, including transportation, environmental, energy, and water with approximately 55,000 employees around the world. He is a past President of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Tennessee and has directed a number of local projects including the Cumberland River Pedestrian Bridge and the reconfiguration of the roadways and parking facilities at Nashville International Airport.
Jerry Stump, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of Wilbur Smith Associates. WSA is one of the America’s top transportation firms with more than 1,100 professional planners, engineers, construction personnel and economists. Mr. Stump has also worked extensively with American Council of Engineering Companies, a national organization representing nearly 6,000 companies nationwide, and currently serves as Chairman of the national organization.
Tom Trent, partner in the Nashville office of the law firm of Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP. Mr. Trent is a member of the firm’s real estate work group and Chair of its Economic Development and Incentive Industry Team with extensive experience in the area of complex commercial real estate, finance, construction and economic development. He is a Governor appointee as the Davidson County representative to the Regional Transportation Authority and a member of 2020 Green Jobs Task Force.
As a sign of the growing recognition of regional transit’s role in Middle Tennessee’s future, today also marked the first time that the elected mayors of Middle Tennessee have met jointly with the boards of both the Transit Alliance and Cumberland Region Tomorrow. The meeting was held on the campus of Lipscomb University.
“We respect the great work of the Mayors Caucus and appreciate their knowledge of communities and their support for the future of improved regional mobility,” said Charles W. Bone, a Sumner County resident and Chairman of the Transit Alliance. “This is an important partnership that will, in time, benefit everyone in Middle Tennessee who travels between home, work and school.”
