SALT LAKE CITY, April 27, 2011—Lynn Stephens, Mountain America’s senior vice president of Human Resources, was recently named HR Executive of the Year, during Credit Union Times’ Trailblazer Award reception. Each year, Credit Union Times recognizes industry leaders in nine different categories. The 2011 Trailblazer Award reception was held at the Credit Union National Association's Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C.

He has great leadership skills, integrity and character. Lynn’s approach and personality have helped our leadership team successfully navigate both the good and challenging years. His experience, willingness to think outside the box and ability to adapt best practices to Mountain America’s way of doing business have all added great value to the credit union,” said Marshall Paepke, Mountain America’s chief administrative officer.

Stephens’s accomplishments at Mountain America include implementing a formal talent management program; creating a new, higher-tiered sales position in order to increase retention; implementing a unique on-the-spot rewards and recognition program; and challenging his department to “Cut the Phat” by looking for cost savings, which to date, has saved the credit union over $850,000.

Stephens began his career at Mountain America in 2007 as the manager of Human Resources and was promoted to senior vice president in 2009. Before coming to Mountain America, Stephens worked for such respected companies as IBM, Novell and GE Capital. He has nearly 25 years of experience in the human resources field.
