Lowell, MA – April 25, 2011-- In an effort that has been in the works for more than a year, Cape & Vineyard Electric Cooperative awarded an $85 million contact for installing 18.2 megawatts of solar power to American Capital Energy, www.AmericanCapitalEnergy.com, amidst competition from seven other vendors. The project, which will be financed by private investors, will reuse capped landfills and is expected to save towns $1.42 million in energy cost in the first year.

“U.S. electrical needs could be met if all the capped landfills and environmentally compromised lands known as brownfields nationwide were used as solar farms. If you put solar on all the brownfields and landfills in the country, you could power more than the United States”, says Tom Hunton, President and CEO of American Capital Energy.
