Job Creation For Women Can Tap Into An Under-Utilised Workforce
22-Feb-2012 | News-Press Release
According to AMPS 2011, in South Africa 6.4 million women between the ages of 20 and 50 have a child below the age of 14. Only 26% of these women are employed full time and 9% are employed part time. Therefore, only 35% of women who have children under 14 years old are in the workplace.
(AMPS 2011 is produced by the South African Advertising Research Foundation and is the "bible' of the advertising industry in South Africa.)
In the USA women make up 46.7% of the labour force. 58.6% of all women 16 years and over were in the labour force compared to 71.2% of all men according to the US Bureau of Labour 2010 statistics.
The United Nations 2015 Millennium Development Goals ranks the promotion of gender equality and empowering woman their 3rd most important goal. After ending hunger and poverty, and providing universal education, gender parity acknowledges that equal access to education is the foundation for all other development goals.
There is a strong willingness to work from unemployed mothers in South Africa, however, the skills training component is missing. Most of these unemployed women have basic school education, minimal, if any, tertiary education and limited skills training. However, they have the ability and willingness to learn skills but lack the opportunity to do so.
This opportunity is based on four important criteria: Firstly, access to skills training programmes. Secondly, the finance required to attend classes to learn skills. Thirdly, the ability to have their children taken care of whilst attending skills training, and fourthly, the opportunity to find work, or become self-employed, once they have acquired a valued skill.
A well-established South African career portal has as its mission "Let's Get South Africa Working™ and that includes promoting work opportunities and job seekers throughout the entire economy. “We are the fastest growing recruitment and job creation website in South Africa." says the employment portal CEO Neville Berkowitz.
During 2012, this revolutionary job portal will be unfolding various free job creation services such as a Skills Training Database of over 3500 skills training programmes. The website will also have a Skills Referral database where skilled people can be promoted by satisfied clients and customers, businesses can now be recommended to others. For graduates there are details of over 200 Corporates in South Africa offering Graduate Programmes. In addition, graduates will be offered the ability to register to be selected by various employers for internships and learnership positions.
The career portal will also have a dedicated section for job seekers over 50 years old who are skilled and experienced looking for part time, full time and contract work. An entrepreneurial section will be devoted to training and developing the skills of people who want to work for themselves. This will be coupled with a service whereby entrepreneurs can promote their existing or planned businesses to Venture Capital Providers and conventional Financiers of small businesses. A business leads generator section of the website will identify what people want daily in the form of goods and services and the ability as a small business owner to contact them. Finally, a Bursary Fund will finance the studies of tomorrow's much needed maths and science teachers in South Africa.
"We call on all South Africans to commit themselves to getting South Africa working and you can start in a small but meaningful way by assisting unemployed mothers to develop a skill that will enable them to find or create a job. In our office we have staff members who have done that for family members of their domestic workers. By financing one person to attain skills training them, in turn, can work, provide for their family and contribute to making South Africa a better place for all." says this outstanding employment portal’s Neville Berkowitz
