In 2010, there were 333,552 new cars sold in Poland, i.e. over 4.17% more than in 2009. The sales picked up towards year end due to the increase of VAT rate in Poland (in force as of Jan 1, 2011), the introduction of EURO V standards and the introduction of new regulations cancelling VAT reductions options. market research
Fiat Auto Poland remains the market leader in terms of car output with a 65% market share. However, its annual production fell by 12%. On the other hand, GM's plant in Gliwice increased its production by over 64% y/y and its market share increased by over 8pps.
Bus sales in Poland in Q1 3/2010 decreased by 6.25% y/y to 612 buses. However, market analysts expect that the whole year will be closed with a 9% y/y increase and sales of over 1,050 units due to large orders that were to be realised in the last quarter of 2010.
Meanwhile, bus production fell by 21.8% y/y in Q1?Q3/2010. The decline is attributed to decreasing export sales and lower sales on the domestic market. In the first three quarters of the year, foreign sales decreased by nearly 25% y/y.
Industrial group Boryszew is building an automotive components group. In mid?year, it acquired Italian group Maflow, together with its production sites in Poland. It plans to acquire at least three more groups by November 2011. It is carrying out a due diligence of Italian firm Cablelettra and looking for an acquisition in Germany.
