New Initiatives Coming To Southwest Center Mall In 2011

03-Jan-2011 | News-Press Release

In April 2009, the mayor and council invested $120,000 to launch a feasibility study to determine if Southwest Center Mall was still viable to the Oak Cliff Community. The study returned an overwhelming “yes” from the 9-member Urban Land Use panel.

After the positive results, the community has followed the recommendations of the panel in the following ways:

a. Establishing a non-profit to assist the mall ownership, community and city hall into a positive direction with a permanent purpose.

b. Assisting the developers, community and city hall in long term plans that benefit the local community.

c. Emphasizing public safety.  In order to attract businesses and retain customers, public safety is a top priority. Crime is down in the mall area 16% per the Deputy Chief.
