Christian dating site PietyDate puts a challenge to the industry to consider user safety before profits.

Brisbane, QLD - Scammers might find their usual tricks don’t work on one dating site. A recent contender in the online Christian dating space PietyDate offers a user verification system to help protect its users from scammers. PietyDate recognizes the majority of scams on dating sites are based overseas and are financially motivated. The verification system ensures the user actually is where they claim to be from, and that they only have one profile on the site. “This is something that all dating sites are able to implement if user safety is a priority to them” says Lindsay Spiteri (Managing Director and Spokesperson), “we’re taking massive losses for doing it but user safety is a higher priority than profits, I think this will be more rewarding to in the longer-term. It’s important to us that we can be proud of what we do and how we do it, especially if we can challenge the industry to make improvements to online dating safety. I commend the Governor’s office of California for issuing guidelines for online dating but ultimately the industry needs to take action and to push the envelope itself”.

PietyDate seems serious about developing ways of eliminating some of the problems that plague the online dating industry. Last month they established what they call the ‘Fraud and Scammer Detection Unit’, this department is dedicated to investigating potentially fraudulent profiles and removing them before any harm is done.

Fittingly this seems like a David and Goliath battle, one relatively small player trying to change an industry for the better.
