Michael and Medina Rashid Receive "Couples Working Together, Making a Difference Award"

Philadelphia, PA – April 16, 2011 – Michael A. Rashid, president and CEO of AmeriHealth Mercy Family of Companies, and his wife Medina Rashid, received the “Couples Working Together, Making a Difference Award” at the recent Fifth-Annual Medallion Scholarship Banquet hosted at the First District Plaza on 3801 Market St., here. The honor was presented to four married couples, including the Rashids, for their commitment to community service in the Philadelphia area. Other awardees included, Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers and his wife Annette, Entrepreneurs Ali and Helen Salahuddin, and Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams and his wife Sonita. The ceremony is hosted by the Ducky Birts Foundation, which awards scholarships to Philadelphia-area students who will attend Cheyney or Lincoln University.

In his role as president and CEO, Rashid is responsible for the business development and operations of the healthcare company, which includes Pennsylvania’s largest Medicaid managed care plan, Keystone Mercy Health Plan, located here. Mrs. Rashid directed the local division of Computers for Youth (CFY), a nationwide non-profit organization dedicated to providing computers to low-income families. Between the two, they serve on numerous local and national community and civic boards, such as Medicaid Health Plans of America, the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation, the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority, the Philadelphia Zoo, Vision of Hope and CFY.

This year’s Medallion Scholarship Banquet also included Medallion Award recipients, State Representatives Vanessa L. Brown, Cherelle L. Parker, and Kenyatta Johnson;  City Councilpersons Frank DiCicco, Bill Green, Curtis Jones ,Jr. and Maria D.Quinones-Sanchez; and City Controller Alan Butkovitz.
