Nelson Mullins Launches Encompass E-Discovery and Document Review Division
26-May-2011 | News-Press Release
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Expanding upon its extensive experience serving as national discovery counsel for corporate clients, Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP has developed a new business division and resource devoted solely to corporate needs for comprehensive information management, electronic discovery, and document review.
Encompass E-Discovery and Document Review Solutions offers clients coordinated electronic discovery (e-discovery) counsel from its secure, state-of-the-art facility in Columbia, S.C., where the team's attorneys have managed more than 34 million pages for review in the last year for multiple litigations, internal investigations, and at U.S. and foreign government requests.
E-discovery refers to a civil litigation process that deals with the exchange of electronically stored information. Changes to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure in December 2006 and in 2007 require litigants to comply with rules for proper retention and management of electronically stored information.
"The emerging technologies surrounding litigation review and document processing can be complex, costly, and time-consuming," said David E. Dukes, Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough managing partner. "Encompass' electronic discovery and litigation readiness lawyers combine extensive knowledge in developing defensible electronic discovery readiness and response strategies with experience as national coordinating counsel in large-scale litigation to deliver the highest quality services at a significant cost savings."
The team of attorneys works with companies to create processes for data preservation, collection, and production that balance risks and costs for each matter. The Encompass team provides legal counsel and technology solutions for all stages of the electronic discovery process.
"Our years of experience as national electronic discovery and litigation counsel for Fortune 200 companies enable us to help clients navigate through the electronic discovery maze and determine what really matters in terms of costs and risks so clients can take the best course of action," Mr. Dukes said.
Encompass' project list covers thousands of matters with well over 20 terabytes of active client data currently under management. Clients' needs span six continents with diverse foreign language requirements.
Established in 1897, Nelson Mullins has more than 400 attorneys and government relations professionals practicing from 12 office locations in the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, North Carolina, South Carolina, and West Virginia.
