Sales Index Shows Steady Growth of Online Sales in Australia

19-Apr-2012 | News-Press Release

Oracle Digital, the premier SEO Company in Perth, Western Australia, has released its newest set of online marketing tools carefully designed to assist local retailers take advantage of what seems to be the growing interest of consumers in online retailing.

According to a recent business report, online sales for February have surged significantly – which shows the shift of consumer spending from traditional to the virtual world.

A sales index on the retail sector released by National Australia Bank (NAB) showed that online sales for the month of February increased to 26% from its previous 19% rate for the month of January. The said NAB index also showed that the monthly index significantly increased from January with 158.9 points to February with 168.1.

Alan Oster, NAB’s Chief Economist, explains the figures saying that this is quite a noticeable growth which shows the great potential of online retailing. He says, "This increase was particularly notable given that February 2010 and 2011 recorded little to no growth when compared with the preceding month of January."

And despite online sales constituting only around 5% from the total annual retail sales of $216 Billion, many experts still believe that with the way online sales have been jumping its ratings - it will persist to grow and become a force to reckon within the days to come.

As examples to the importance of online shopping, traditional retail giants like David Jones, Harvey Norman, and Myer, have been reporting slower sales and considerable dips in profits because of their failure to use online tools accordingly.

This is in stark contrast with EBay Australia, which reported that the profit increase of about 45% from their top sellers, which again, shows the clear advantage of engaging in online strategies.

In relation with these findings, Woolworths Ltd, Australia’s largest retail company, has announced that it will maximise its online presence in order to reach its projection of annual online sales of $1 Billion by 2014 - which according to them, is made possible due to the shift of consumer spending through the Internet and the increasing popularity of smartphones.

This on-going demand for online retailing is further supported by James Corby, Business Development Director of Oracle Digital He says, “Online sales and pre-purchase research have gone through the roof during the last year, and we’re noticing a huge increase in the uptake of products and services related to assisting these businesses get their products out there. It’s quite phenomenal to be honest.”

Corby, however, explains that in order to gain an advantage with Internet Marketing – the need to use the proper SEO procedures and online tools is vital. He says, “SEO is a fickle beast, and rather than try to manipulate Google, you actually just give it what it wants. If you give it the right content and do so in the right way, then you are going to get rewarded in the organic search results.”

There are many SEO providers who claim to have the best online tools, but in reality, they do not. Hence, Corby says, “When choosing a genuine SEO provider, look for one that offers holistic and ethical strategies, and above all do your homework and speak to their current customer base for genuine recommendations.”

In order to address this growing need for reliable and effective online marketing tools and techniques, Oracle Digital is continually striving to provide the most efficient SEO tactics, social marketing strategies and other essential SEO products to all of its current and prospective clients.
